Family: Gymnodiniaceae

Description: Unarmoured (athecate) free-living cell, sometimes enclosed in a hyaline cyst. Some species are bethic or epiphytic. Cells can be globular or fusiform, and contain one large, lobed chloroplast. Large, dense blooms of Amphidinium can result in red tides. Some species can produce toxins.

Cell size: Length 12-18um, Width 8-10um
