Impressions:
Net Chlorophyll biomass was similar to last week's sample ( 0.93 ug /L and 7.59 ug / L total by in vivo fluorescence). Community has shifted back to diatom dominance. Pseudo-nitzschia spp increased 3X over last week (37,275 cells /L; 71% seriata size class). Dinoflagellates declined in abundance but remained diverse with Prorocentrum micans leading they way at ca 1/9th the abundance of last sample (1,190 cells / L). Cochlodinium spp and Dinophysis spp were observed but rare in sample. Cyanobacterial filaments were common and seemed to be associated with buoyant turbidity fronts that passed through the sampling locale. Water temperature again decreased by ca 2 oC over last week.

Net Chlorophyll biomass increased slightly relative to last week ( 0.85 ug /L and 12.34 ug / L total by in vivo fluorescence). Dinoflagellates remained dominant in the mixed assemblage. Prorocentrum micans was common (9,273 cells / L) followed by our Boreadinium like cells (2,870 cells / L) and Ceratium furca (2,429 cells / L). Several dinoflagellate HA species were present at low levels including Alexandrium spp (662 cells / L; 4 cell chains), Cochlodinium spp (ca. 600 cells/L) and Dinophysis accuminata (< 200 cells / L). Pseudo-ntizschia were also present in the spare diatom community (10,156 cells / L, 26% delicatissima size class). Water temperature decresease by ca 1oC over last week. Suspended sediment, drift macroalgae and detritus contributed to a decrease in water clarity.

Impressions:
Net Chlorophyll biomass declined again this week ( to 0.36 ug /L) while total chlorophyll was similar to last sample (19.25 ug / L by in vivo fluorescence). The appearance of a long period swell at this locale has finally turned over the phytoplankton community, with suspended sediment dominating the samples along with an active grazer community comprised of tintinids and calanoids. Pseudo-nitzschia spp is finally no longer dominant ( 7,015 cells / L, ca. 17.1% delicatissima class), although diatoms were more frequently observed than dinoflagellates. Dinoflagellate diversity decreased, with Prorocentrum micans (802 cells / L) and Ceratium teres (401 cells / L) leading this pack in abundance.

DAF-10 puck assay was 'non-detect' ( below quantification limit or < 0.72 ug DA / L ).

Other diatoms were lead by six Chaetocerus species. Dinoflagellates fell back in both abundance and diversity with Prorocentrum micans (579 cells / L) and the Boreadinium-like cells (193 cells / L) leading the pack. Impressions:
Net Chlorophyll biomass declined from last week's sample ( ca 50% to 1.64 ug /L; Total chlorophyll: 29.11 ug/L by in vivo fluorescence) indicating a potential community shift. In spite of a marked decline in Pseudo-nitzschia spp abundance (to 68,759 cells / L, ca. 9.2% delicatissima class), the lowest abundance observed since mid-June, the genus still dominates the net community! Chains >15 cells are common. Other diatoms are at best 'present'. Dinoflagellates have gained slightly in relative abundance lead by Prorocentrum micans (ca 2X increase to 2,765 cells / L) and the Boreadinium-like cells (369 cells / L) both of which were actively swimming.. In addition to Phaeocystis, small (< 2u) flagellates were also present. Sediment load declined from last sample
