Description: Large, diverse genus. Armored, gonyaulacoid body, two to four hollow horns. Horns open or closed. Chloroplasts present.

Cell Size: Width 5-50um, Length 70-500um

Distribution: Cosmopolitan, neritic, cold and warm waters. C. furca is very common in Monterey Bay and often forms dense blooms.
