Description: Long, cylindrical cells. Valves terminate in a proboscis (elongated appendage). Auxospores sometimes present.

Length (pervalvar) 1mm

Distribution: Oceanic temperate waters, sometimes coastal

Synonym: Proboscia alata = Rhizosolenia alata
