Description: Centric diatoms. Cells can be solitary or form short chains. Attheya is similar in appearance to Chaetoceros, but can be identified by valve outgrowths or horns and by type of girdle bands. Attheya can be planktonic or epiphytic and is often found attached to sand grains or other diatoms.

Cell Size: Width 4-10um

Distribution: Northern cold water to temperate, also found in freshwater.
